Education and Qualifications

Dan’s formal education provided him the opportunity to study the fascinating microscopic world in forest soils.  Through many hours of observing active one-celled organisms, he realized that life at the cellular level is the same as life in humans:  complex and fascinating.  While “book learnin’” had its place in his education, there were two other highly significant determinants of Dan’s path to life-long learning.  The first was the profound influence of his immigrant grandfather who, as an uneducated farmer who loved and lived in the wilderness, developed a deep understanding of the essence and spirituality of natural biological systems.   The second determinant was the many excellent resource managers, especially the field staff, and research scientists with whom Dan had the good fortune to work across British Columbia.
