Brief Bio
Dan Lousier was born and raised in the central interior of British Columbia, and ventured to the distant worlds of Nelson, British Columbia and Calgary, Alberta to complete his formal education. His interests in, and basic understanding of, natural systems and resource management stem from his family being involved in forest management and agriculture in British Columbia since the mid-1920s. Dan’s work experiences have focused primarily on British Columbia (particularly the Coast, central interior and the north-east corner) and western and northern Alberta. Some of his project work has also included Saskatchewan, Manitoba, and the Yukon. He has provided writing and editing assistance to scientists and other professionals from the rest of North America, Europe, Asia, New Zealand and Australia.
He has been a life-long proponent of (a) the principles of ecological sustainability, (b) understanding the relationships between community stability, sustainable living, human health and well-being, and the natural environment, and (c) the role of family values in achieving human health and well-being and sustainable living.
Dan is an accomplished organic gardener, and currently lives on the Cowichan Bay Farm, a family farm specializing in pasture-grown poultry, in Cowichan Bay, BC on beautiful Vancouver Island. He has four daughters who continue to amaze, intimidate and train him. He has been blessed with three rambunctious grandsons.
